Farewell to The Wrap

When Darius Family (18) and Aeden Ratcliffe (17) decided they wanted to make a live television show The Wrap, anyone watching probably wouldn't know that the Executive Producers of the show were under 18 and still at school.
 
The Wrap has been a huge success - every Friday night for a year, the team has brought the best of Melbourne's music, arts, comedy and fashion to your screens, but it finishes up this week...

Red Rockets of Borneo win Free Kick

Melbourne's own Red Rockets of Borneo are the winners of the 2011 SYN Free Kick band competition!
 
Their prize is a spot on the line-up at the Reclink Community Cup on June 26, alongside You Am I, Tumbleweed, The Rebelles and Mercy Kills.

I, A Man, Rain Party, Red Rockets of Borneo, Royal Chant and The Living Eyes will compete on Sunday, May 22nd at The Tote for their chance to perform at this year's Reclink Community Cup!

Launch of digital radio

SYN celebrated the launch of community digital radio in Melbourne at Federation Square with a nine-station simultaneous live broadcast  - epic! Pictured here are Emma and Lexie who hosted our broadcast, which included an interview with Senator Stephen Conroy - podcasts to come soon.

Free Kick Competition

SYN is joining forces with the Reclink Community Cup to present the Free Kick competition - if you're in a young and emerging band with members under the age of 30, enter the Free Kick competition to win a chance to perform at the Reclink Community Cup!

SYN is coming to digital radio

Nine Melbourne community radio stations (including SYN!) will make their digital radio debut on Thursday April 14. For the first time all nine stations will simultaneously broadcast side-by-side live from Federation Square to commemorate this historic occasion.
 
Come down to The Atrium at Fed Square from 11am-12pm on April 14 to celebrate the launch of digital radio with us or tune in to SYN on your digital radio or 90.7 FM.

Community Cup 2011 announced

The most exciting date on Melbourne’s music community calendar – the Reclink Community Cup, returns in all its glory to its new spiritual home at Elsternwick Park on Sunday June 26, 2011.
 
Again, SYN will be running the Free Kick band competition with the Cup - stay tuned for info soon.

SYN Awards finalists announced

Each year SYN recognises the fantastic content and hard work from our volunteers with the SYN Awards.

Measuring SYN's radio programs

Last November at SYN we held a census to gather information about our radio broadcasters and programs – a bit of a “health check” of our radio programs.
 
Over the period of a week, all programs filled out a comprehensive survey about their show’s content, their music, the technology they used to produce content and their skills.

There were some cool stats that emerged from the census responses, and some which indicated more work was needed...
