Are trade unions well-meaning bodies that look out for their industry workers, or as Howard said, thugs and bullies who stand in the way of productivity?

More than 2000 construction workers marched on Wednesday to remember those killed on Australian building sites, and called for the abolition of the previous government's construction commission, which has seen a spike in deaths on site since its introduction.

Reporter Emma Buckley Lennox went along.

Life on the mines

The resources boom was four years ago, when unskilled labourers flocked to mines in WA, getting over $90,000 a year.

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has flagged an idea to withhold dole payments for under-30s in areas where unskilled work is available - particularly, in mining.

Are the jobs still out there? What's it like on the mines today, four years after the boom?
