Connecting with young Muslims

After taking office nearly 3 years ago, US President Barack Obama created a new job, that of special representative to Muslim communities for the US Department of State.

 

Since taking that role, Farah Pandith has travelled to 42 countries in 17 months speaking specificially young Muslims. She came into the SYN radio studios to speak to Panorama's Tim Cuthell and Hsin-Yi Lo.

The hijab uncovered

Have you ever felt scared because of what you're wearing? For some Muslim women, it's something they think about every time they go out.

The hijab - the Islamic headscarf - has been the centre of racism and social debate. It's been denounced as divisive and regressive, reducing women to "things", but is this a Western misunderstanding?

Panorama asks Khalid, whose mum and sister wear the hijab, and the author of UNSW's 'Challenging Racism' project.
