SYN Media Education – Radio and Digital Media Programs
Hands on learning for students and teachers in our classroom and yours!
Live Radio
Our most popular program, SYN's 'Schools on Air' live radio puts students live in our on-air studio with a SYN trainer once a week for a full term. Includes online resources for students and teachers as well as a dedicated web page for your class to upload media and interact with other schools and young media makers.
Duration: 1 term. Capacity: 27 students.
Radio Tours
Try a taste of SYN with this short excursion. Students will learn about community media as well as produce a live radio program in our production studio that will be made available to download from the SYN website. Podcasts from all SYN Radio Tours are available for streaming and downloading on SYN.org.au.
Duration: 1.5 hours. Capacity: 27 students.
Podcasting Workshop
Students work in groups to record and edit their own audio pieces, which will be published on the SYN website as podcasts. SYN provides each student with support materials on USBs as well as a class set of microphones to keep you vodcasting after the workshop. We can run this at SYN or come out to you!
Duration: half day or full day: Capacity: 27 students.
Vodcast Workshop
We bring the cameras and inspiration – your class provides the creativity and enthusiasm. Students learn to film and edit their own video segment then work in small groups to produce a final vodcast that are published on the SYN website. SYN provides each student with support materials including video tutorials on USBs to use after the workshop. We can run this at SYN or come out to you!
Duration: half day or full day: Capacity: 27 students.
Curate these programs to suit your school's budget and curriculum.

SYN Education – check out what we have done in 2010!
Young people are increasingly consuming new media, and in line with SYN's “creators, not consumers” philosophy, we teach students to make creative and engaging online media pieces. Have a look at some of the great digital media that students have made at SYN workshops throughout the year during SYN Radio Tours and through our Digital Media Workshops.

Funding Opportunity
Government schools and community organisations can use funds from the Department for Victorian Communities' Advance grant to fund SYN media learning programs. This non-competitive grant of $9725 +GST is made available to all government school campuses in Victoria to fund community linkage programs.
SYN is a community organisation that has had great success as an Advance community partner. Students undertake media training and link with a community of active young people and SYN provides comprehensive support for the coordinating teacher to ensure the grant's requirements are easily met.
Talk to your principal today about your school's 2011 Advance grant.
