The homegrown frontman, stepping out on his own for the first time, had the entire theatre in his grasp and on their feet through a setlist of new and old favourites, with a doting and surprisingly fitting rendition of The Cure’s 'Friday I'm In Love'.

A disco ball and a simple yet effective array of lighting displays were all it took to complete the feeling of a time longed for, as the markings of an indie-pop sensation were actualised.

A personal favourite in 'Garden Life' saw one of the LP's highlights come to fruition in all its domestic bliss and lovesick devotion. The track, like most by Luke Hemmings, portrays a vivid spectrum of affected emotion through vulnerable delivery, as though torn straight from the pages of his life and made melody.

The song 'Mum' in particular was performed with such intensity, eliciting a mirrored devastation and heartache to that of the studio recording. In many ways, it was as though we were hearing Luke Hemmings for the first time all over again.

The show’s penultimate performance brought another full circle moment in Luke Hemmings’ first release as a solo artist, 'Starting Line'. The song encompassed the show up to that point; a euphoric moment, a joy-filled scream, and a sense of fondness for an artist coming into his own right before our eyes.
