On 19th October, myself and some SYN crew were lucky enough to be invited to attend to the not-for-profit and absolutely marvellous Ability Fest for 2024.
From the moment we arrived on site, you knew it was an honour to be there. Being the first of its kind, promoting access and inclusivity within the festival space is at the forefront of this event. Not only was the expansion of music and genres brilliant but the event set-up and the all-around vibe of the space were utilised in such a wonderful way to ensure that everyone could enjoy the day.
From an artistic perspective, it was evident that the performers were thrilled to be a part of Australia’s first accessible festival with mentions from King Stingray’s Roy and the gang from Floodlights all touching upon the honour of being invited to perform for the pure enjoyment of performing to crowds of people who may otherwise be limited to attend less inclusive festivals and events.

The day was filled with excitement and camaraderie among all the festival-goers. This event brought a much-needed change to the community, particularly in terms of accessibility for everyone. The festival was designed with inclusivity in mind, making it easy for attendees to navigate between various points of interest.
However, I would have liked to see more shaded areas, as the sun was quite intense and limited options for respite.
The performances were nothing short of amazing. I was incredibly proud to witness such influential artists take the stage, each bringing their unique talent and energy to the event.
Their performances not only entertained but also inspired the audience, creating a sense of unity and celebration.
Overall, this festival was a remarkable experience, showcasing the best of our community and reinforcing the importance of accessibility and inclusivity in all events. I look forward to seeing how it evolves in the future.
